The Monteith rests on a low molded foot. The gently sloping sides are divided into eight panels separated by strips with a matted surface. The panels are decorated with flat-chased chinoiserie figures, foliage, and architectural ruins. The rim of the bowl is scalloped and reinforced on the outside with a border of applied foliage. The bowl is raised from a single sheet with chased ribs dividing the panels. The foot is formed of two seamed pieces. The underside of the bowl is extensively pitted and the foot has been crudely reattached.
