The straight-sided oval body, formed from seamed sheet, has a reeded base and rim. The sides are pierced and engraved with a pattern of medallions and waves. The scrolled handle has an openwork scallop thumbpiece, and the oval domed lid has a square opening on the front of the edge to accomodate a spoon. The glass liner is lacking.

On underside, leopard's head crowned; sovereign's head; lion passant (repeated inside cover); date letter q; maker's mark PB over AB (Grimwade 2140)(repeated inside cover);
