Lower left artist's hand: Tahiti, Tautira, March, 1891. Ori-a-ori and his people cooking "poi" in the open oven - The bundles under wood contain poi. "Over the earth will be leaves, then earth as I wrote you." Poi is plantain or cocoanut; lower right: Should be spade against tree (with a sketch of the lower right corner of picture, cocoanuts.
