春の部。向島(むこうじま)の土手から隅田川越しに真乳山と山谷堀を見る。本図手前には提灯を持つ人物に導かれて隅田堤を歩く芸妓が描かれる。真乳山の頂上にあった聖天堂(しょうてんどう)は近くの花柳界の信者も多かった。 – 藤澤紫K

NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
