DescriptionNoh theater robe (karaori) with alternating color blocks of reddish-orange, light brown and light blue and an overall design of wisteria and wild pinks in green, blue, purple, orange and pink silk discontinuous supplementary patterning wefts and clouds in gilt paper discontinuous supplementary patterning wefts; reddish-orange plain-weave silk lining.
ProvenanceKuroda of Fukuoka Collection. By 1915, Yamanaka & Co., New York; 1915, sold by Yamanaka to the MFA, through William Sturgis Bigelow, Boston, [see note 1] for $7500 [see note 2]. (Accession date: October 7, 1915)
