Louis Mueller taught sculpture and metalsmithing for many years at the Rhode Island School of Design, training a generation of young artists and introducing the American audience to many important European jewelers. Daphne Farago commissioned Mueller to set these brilliantly colored Australian opals. Mueller made the settings geometric because the rectangular stones reminded him of television screens.
DescriptionOne of a pair. 22 kt burnished yellow gold circle brooch. Set with gem boulder opal slit from "The Big Hole" Mayneside Winton Area, Queensland, Australia. Predominantly deep blue, green with lighter tones and flashes of red.
