Obverse: Profile bust of Pius IX looking to proper right, wearing cap and lowered hood with floral linework pattern at edge; inscribed at edge "PIVS·IX·PONT·MAX·" and under bust "I·BIANCH·S·".

Reverse: View of piazza before Saint Paul's; inscribed at edge "[flower] PIVS·IX·P·M·FRONTEM·ET·PRONAVM·BASILICAE·PAVLI·APOSTOLI·AB·INCENDIO·NOBILIVS·RESTITVIT" and in exergue "AN·MDCCCLXV/AL·POLETTI·ARCH·INV·/I·BIANCHI·S·".
