Obverse: Profile bust of Pius IX looking to proper right, wearing a cap and lowered hood and wreath at edge; inscribed at edge of wreath “PIVS IX·PONT·MAX·” and under bust “NIC·CERBARA F·”.

Reverse: View of aquaduct in landscape with woman walking child on road in foreground; inscribed above “PROVIDENTIA·OPTIMI·PRINCIPIS/ARICIAE·CLIVI·PERICVLO·SVBLATO” and in exergue “VIA·INCENTI·MOLITIONE·ARCVBVS·IMPOSITA/COMMEANTIVM·SECVRITATI/ANNO·MDCCCLIV/I·BIANCH·S·”.
