Obverse: Profile bust of Pius IX looking to proper right; inscribed at edge “PIVS IX PONT.MAX.AN.XVI” and under bust “C.VOIGT”.

Reverse: Man standing at center with arms extended from his side with a lion and each side and a branch at proper right; inscribed at edge “DEVS MEVS CONCLVDAT ORA LEONVM” and in exergue “MDCCCLXI”.
