DescriptionCircular medal of Pope Pius IX (1792-1878).

Obverse: Profile bust of Pius IX looking to proper right; inscribed at edge "PIVS·IX·PONT·MAX·AN·XXXI·" and on bust "I·BIANCHI".

Reverse: Haloed man (possibly Joseph) standing at center, holding a flower in his right hand over haloed woman seated at proper left with child on her lap and personification of Ecclesia, kneeling at proper right on a plinth and holding keys in her right hand and a small church in her left; inscribed above "IOSEPHVS·MARIAE·V·SPONSVS", on plinth "[ ]ANC PETRAM[ ]", and in exergue "ECCLESIAE·CATH·/PATRONVS·DATVS/1871/I·BIANCHI·F·".
InscriptionsObverse: Inscribed at edge "PIVS·IX·PONT·MAX·AN·XXXI·" and on bust "I·BIANCHI".
