ITALIAN VASE PAINTING in ITALY, #143 (58.1268)
Plate
4th century B.C., perhaps the 2nd quarter
The interior and the upper part of the exterior wall are glazed black. In the center of the interior is a stamped design consisting of a central rosette surrounded by linked palmettes. Around this is a band of linear incisions imitating rouletting, made by stuttering a stick on the surface as it spun on the wheel. This in turn is circled by an ivy vine painted in added white.
For the imitation rouletting, compare the Teano Ware plate, catalogue no. 148.
