Ceramics

A medium sized Iznik plate. Its design is delineated with a fine black painted line, filled in sage green, blue and raised red. The underside is cursorily inscribed with eight, small, roughly circular squiggles, alternately splashed blue and green. The concave, everted rim of the plate shows a version of the “rock and wave” border in a strong, dark cobalt blue with black detail. The center bears the common theme of a naturalistically asymmetrical bouquet of varied flowers growing from a tuft of green and blue leaves and centered by a curving stem of hyacinths.

Inscription

Old MFA label appears to say 464.15 Lyman.
