DescriptionRectangular double pocketbook. Silk plainweave, warp grayish blue, weft white. Embroidered with silver metallic threads, gold and silver metal purl, pink, blue and uncolored metal spangles, taupe silk thread. Four white silk medallions embroidered with polychrome silk with painted details, appliqued onto the blue silk ground with metal purl and spangles. Medallion designs: (exterior) three men and one woman at table drinking; man proposing to woman; (interior) piper and dancing couple; two women with flowers before statue of cupid. Embroidery stitches include: chain stitch, laid and couched, stem stitch, bullion knot. White silk lining. Four interior compartments, two flaps. Silver metallic thread binding.
