Alto in E-flat. Circular-wound trumpet with a cornet type mouthpiece. Two piston valves, ‘Berliner Pumpen’ type (short; large diameter). Brass, with German silver trimmings. Cylindro-conoidal bore. Large cornet type mouthpiece. Engraved on the bell rim band are the Prussian eagle and conventional floral patterns.

About 1850, made for Heinrich Bredemeier, postman of Prussia; by 1916, acquired by Francis W. Galpin (1858-1945), Hatfield Regis, England; 1916, sold by Galpin to William Lindsey (1858-1922), Boston, Massachusetts; 1916, gift of William Lindsey, in memory of his daughter, Leslie Lindsey Mason, to the MFA.
