DescriptionThis sherd of a vessel of a brown clay retains traces of a red wash and applied figural decoration. Depicted is an arm bent at the elbow with a hand holding an object. Both modelling and detailing are rough with minimal detailing ofthe hand and object rendered by simple incised lines. The sherd may be derived from a Bes jar, though this is not certain.
ProvenanceFrom Naukratis. 1885: excavated by William Matthew Flinders Petrie for the Egypt Exploration Fund, assigned to the EEF in the division of finds by the Egyptian government; October 28, 1885: voted to the MFA at EEF general meeting; sent over February 1886. (Accession Date: January 1, 1886)
