This single-folio is from an illustrated manuscript of the geographic work, "Āṯār al-belād wa aḵbār al-ʿebād" (Monuments of the lands and historical traditions about their peoples), composed in Arabic by the Persian scholar Abū Yaḥyā Zakarīyāʾ b. Moḥammad Qazvīnī (ca. 1203-83 A.D./ 600-82 A.H.). The "Āṯār al-belād" combines geographical information, such as the natural features of the seven Ptolemaic climatic zones, with ideas from history, folklore, popular religion, and literary-biography.
