The seated figure of a saint writing is possibly St. John the Evangelist. Below him is the monogram I.H.S. On each side are urns from which grow flowers on curving stems. A raised cordonnet outlines part of the design. The piece has been cut along the top and an edging of inferior workmanship added. A similar piece illustrated in “Antique Laces of American Collectors” by Francis Morris and Marion Hague, plate 25, has in it the arms of the Pallavicini of Brannenburg
