Qur’an, 347 folios in stamped red leather cover, West African (or Sudani) script, 16 lines to a page, rubricated, with colored ornaments. European paper with “tres lunes” watermarks (some with faces). In ornamented leather satchel. Like other Northern Nigerian manuscripts, the folios are loose.

Provenance

By 1913, with Dr. Denman Waldo Ross (b. 1853 - d. 1935), Cambridge, MA; 1915, gift by Ross to the MFA. (Accession Date: January 7, 1915).
