Provenance12th century, church of San Baudelio de Berlanga, Casillas de Berlanga, Soria, Spain (original commission); 1922, frescoes sold by the residents of Casillas de Berlanga to Léon Levi (dealer), Barcelona, working with Gabriel Dereppe (dealer), Paris and New York [see note 1]; 1926, frescoes removed from San Baudelio and sent to London to be transferred to canvas; 1927, sent to New York and sold by Gabriel Dereppe to the MFA for $117,500 [see note 2]. (Accession Date: November 17, 1927)

In 1925, the Tribunal Supremo, or supreme court, affirmed the rights of the residents of Casillas de Berlanga to sell the paintings to Levi, and for Levi to dispose of them.
