DescriptionPer Scheeman and Schuckman (Holl.liv.250):
Traditionally accepted as Van Wtenbroucks, but despite its fine quality not conclusive autograph. The rendering of the foliage is ratherdifferent, and the print lacks the strongly engraved shadowinging in the foreground, resulting in repoussoirs so characteristic for many of Wtenbroucks etchings. At all probability a (free) copy by an unidentified engraver (close to Jan van de Velde), published by Claes Jansz. Visscher, after an unknown original by Wtenbrouck. Cf. the similar signature on the Visscher copy of [Holl.liv127.14]. Possibly added by Visscher to a set with his copies after [Holl.liv127.14] (numbered 1), [Holl.liv.146.19] (number 2) and [Holl.liv.113.5 ii/ii] (no number).
Inscriptionsl.l. engraved in plate: "Uytenbroeck fe" at l.r. engraved in plate: monogram of Claes Jansz. Visscher, publisher, and "ex."
