Intaglio. Motif carved on convex side of stone. A lion springing to the left. Lion rendered in a linear style; mane indicated by a series of straight lines extending out from the center of the lion’s head. No face is visible except for a beak-like snout. Tail of the lion sticks straight up. Bottom half of stone missing.

Provenance

Tell Dafana (Daphnae). 1886: excavated by William Matthew Flinders Petrie for the Egypt Exploration Fund, assigned to the EEF by the Egyptian government; presented to the MFA at EEF fifth annual general meeting; sent over June 1, 1887.
