Sampler inscribed “There is No Charm in the female Sex that can supply the Place of Vertue without Innocence. Beauty is unlovely and Quality contemptable. good Breeding degenerates into Wantonness and Wit into impudence. A Vertuou person struggling with Misfortunes and rising above them is an Object un which the Gods may Look down with Pleasure. Tamer Simpson. Pitch upon that Course of Life which is the most excellent and Custom will render in the most delightful. 1745. Wrought at hesket by me Tamer Simps.” Worked in cross, satin, counted satin, and sawtooth stitches.
