DescriptionOne of a set of four (with 2001.55-1-2, 4) sauceboats of oval shape raised on four lion's paw feet, with legs wrapped with lion tails below lion masks, which are linked by floral swags across the sides of the body. C-scroll handles in the form of serpents with segmented bodies.Engraved under the lip with an earl's armorials.

Struck under bases with hallmarks (leopard's head, lion passant, date letter for 1735-6) and with maker's mark of Paul Crispin.
InscriptionsEngraved under the lip, ca. 1870, with the arms of Archibald Philip Primrose, 5th Earl of Rosebery (b. 1847 - d. 1929).
