DescriptionOne of a pair (with 2001.58.1). Oval form, raised on three lion's paw feet with entwined tails and headed by lion masks. Multi-scrolled handle headed by acanthus. One side engraved with a duke's armorials, the other with three crests and a duke's coronet. Engaved underneath with initials F&C under a baron's coronet.

Struck under bases with hallmarks (leopard's head, lion passant, date letter for 1736-7) and with maker's mark of Peter Archambo I.
InscriptionsThe arms are those of Osborne impaling those of Townsend, as borne by George Osborne, 6th Ducke of Leeds (1775-1838). The initials F and C and coronet are those borne by his descendant Marcia Amelia, Baroness Fauconberg and Conyers (1863-1926), who married Charles, 4th Earl of Yarborogh in 1886.
