DescriptionOne of a pair (with 2001.63.1). One of a pair (with 2001.63.2). Oval body with auricular sprialing shell raised on four splayed shell-form feet representing shells. Chased under the lip with rococo ornament and scalework. The handle in the form of a putto busts extending from a lion mask. Engraved under the lip with a crest and motto.

Struck under bases with hallmarks (leopard's head, lion passant, date letter for 1740-41) and with maker's mark of Paul de Lamerie.
InscriptionsThe crest and motto are those of Gordon.
