Scarabs and scaraboids

White steatite “a-n-r” scarab, with schematic back and base inscribed with the letters “a-n-r” repeated in a cartouche border. Dating to the Hyksos period, scarabs with this type of inscription appear to have served a magical or amuletic function, as the hierglyphs are otherwise meaningless.
