This semicircular bowl with slightly recurved rim displays the black interior polish and blackened rim that is typical of Kerma ceramics. The body of the vessel is polished red on the exterior. (Sudan catalogue)

From Kerma, Cemetery N, grave 131 (a disturbed oval grave). April, 1916: excavated by the Harvard University-Museum of Fine Arts Expedition; 1921: assigned to the MFA by the government of the Sudan.
