KARL SPITZWEG, born 5th February 1808 at Munich where he died also on 23rd September 1885. He studied at the University of Munich and dedicated himself towards 1835 to the study of Art. He chose for his paintings the life of the contented citizen characteristic of his time representing it in a pleasant and humoristic way and laying stress upon certain types.
