These chairs were owned by the Huse family of Greenland, N.H., in the eighteenth century, and descended in the Gilbert family of Stratham, N.H. They were owned at one time by Paine Wingate (1739-1838), who married a Gilbert, but they returned to the Gilbert line, and were inherited by Sarah M. Gilbert whose heirs gave them to the donor, Miss Dororthy Buhler, Kittery Point, Maine.
Gift of Miss Dorothy Buhler
