DescriptionMahogany. (Part of same set as 65.2522-23). Squared seat back with foliate carving on ears of top rail over fluted stiles.Splat composed of 'C' scrolls, 'V' shaped cut-out, leaf. Band of florettes and hash marks over stippling. Squared seat with railsmolded at top edge with gadrooning on front seat rail. Cabriole front legs ending in claw and ball feet and with carved leafage originating at base of knee brackets and extending over knee almost 2/3 way down leg. Back legs end in squared feet.
Inscriptions'III' carved on rear seat rail below shoe, 'I' chalked on front seat rail.

NOTE: This chair comes from the same set as MFA accession nos. 65.2522-65.2523. The set must have been broken up before 1945, when the other two chairs in the MFA's collection were on the New York art market.
