DescriptionBlack 'lacquer' and gilding on wood. Leather slip seat. Cabriole front legs with claw and ball feet and carved and gilded shell and pendant leafage on knees, tops of shells extend up onto seat rail. Back feet are hoof-shaped, back legs round in section to seat rail. Horse-shoe shaped seat with narrow seat rail and molded upper edge. Back posts shaped to reverse curve, yoke shaped crest rail and solid baluster-shaped splat seated in seat rail with applied shoe. Back posts square in cross-section with chamfered back edges. All surfaces including leather seat have been jappaned in black and gold. Back splat shows a scene of two women outdoors standing next to a long table.
