Seating and beds

These chairs differ from the one at the head of the table only in the treatment of the crest rails, which are partially reeded and have a slightly different construction. The name “Bussey,” inscribed on the lower edge of the seat rail, may be that of the original owner, possibly Benjamin Bussey of Dedham and Boston.

Provenance

Possibly owned originally by a person named Bussey, perhaps Benjamin Bussey, a Boston silversmith; to the MFA, April 1931, purchased as part of a group of 7 pieces for $2,150.
