秋の部。大伝馬町三丁目の呉服商大丸屋(下村氏)を描く。看板にあるように、越後屋同様現金掛け値なしの商法を実践した。衣冠束帯(いかんそくたい)の棟梁を先頭に店前を通る一行は、建物の上棟式を終えた大工達であろう。 -- 藤澤紫K

NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
