Reproduction fo 8th-10th century silk in Cathedral at Sens. Compound weft-faced twill: silk weft, mercerized cotton inner warp. Pattern shows pair oval sunbursts containing pairs of affronted lions, between two rows of paired dogs and feline beasts (cf. shroud of Saints Colombe and Loup, Sens). colors: green-blue, light ultramarine, beige, neutral yellow, neutral pink. Fibers strong and resilient; surface seems to show light gray-green glaze or wash; all four sides show cut edges. Same pattern as 47.1457 (Withdrawn from Coll.).
Design is most likey of Sassanian origin.
