The lower jaw is formed into the spout; there is a hole at the back for the insertion of the pipe. The mane is roughly brushed, upwards and to left or right. Bluish green (river?) patina, with remains of calcareous coating.

By about A.D. 1650: recorded in Dal Pozzo-Albani drawing no. 521 in the British Museum; by 1899: with E. P. Warren (according to Warren's records: Bought in Rome 1899.); purchased by MFA from E. P. Warren, 1899, for $ 32,500.00 (this is the total price for MFA 99.338-99.542)
