Malayan, mottled amboina wood; chiseled and cast mercury-gilt bronze; stamped with the crowned N, COMP (iegne), and JACOB FRERES/R (ue) MESLEE. Table was part of royal furniture of Chateau de Compiegne made for Napoleon Bonaparte by the Brothers Jacob. The bronze caryatids supporting 4 corners were made in workshop of Pierre Philippe Thomire. Similar table in Brand Trianon, Versailles. Original marble top, now replaced was of so-called rouge royale marbre de Tirlemont.
