The straight-sided rectangular canister, formed from five pieces of seamed sheet, has a slightly curved upper edge. The cover is a flat sliding panel with a circular opening and high lip that fits into the raised domed cap. The surface has been highly polished.

Inscription

ARMORIALS: engraved on side, arms and crest of Ayde, co. Norfolk.

Onn lower edge of back, Britannia; date letter O; maker's mark WI (Grimwade 3187)(repeated on base); lion's head erased; (repeated onbase, neck and rim of cover)
