The rectangular body has a molded base and a stepped lid hinged on the short side. It is constructed of scored, seamed sheet with an inset base. The foot rim consists of a thick molded wire. The cover is cast, with an applied molded wire rim.

Inscription

ARMORIALS: engraved on front of canister, the arms of HAMILTON quartering DOUGLAS for the Dukes of hamilton, surrounded by the Order of the Thistle.
INSCRIPTIONS: engraved on bottom, 14 = 16
