ProvenanceBuhler Entry: John May, Jr. (1778-1823) whose emigrating ancestor of the same name was born in England in 1590. He is recorded to have traveled extensively and in 1806 married Ann Gordon Reed. She died the following year when he went to the Cape of Good Hope where he was in the British military service. He returned to Boston about 1822 and died the following year. The tea set descended to be given by the heirs of his brother, Dr. Frederick May.
