DescriptionThe design consists of stripes of squares filled with oval medallions, in which are conventional bunches of flowers. Between the squares are cartouches with Arabic inscriptions. The piece is woven with red, light blue, yellow, light green and violet silk and narrow strips of silver gilt. Much pieced.
InscriptionsPersian poetry on this minutely detailed textile reads, "Come, for the Padshah's victorious banner has arrived; the good news and glad tidings of triumph have reached the sun and moon…"
