DescriptionRetouched with pencil by the artist
This plate, like Fulham (No. 22), was published in Paris without Haden's permission. I am not certain which is the pirated version. Because of Haden's relationship with Delâtre in the 1860's and 1870's, I do not believe that Delâtre would have been a party to such a conspiracy, or permitted his name to be used on the pirated edition. Perhaps Cadart & Luquet did print the plate without Haden's permission; however, the state without any signature or inscription seems to be a later printing.
IV. The plate reduced to 140 x 206 mm. The larger figure and the hull of the boat burnished, the latter faintly visible. With the inscription 'Thames Ditton Seymour Haden 1864" (E.l.l.).
Schneiderman (1983) p. 171
{NOTE: A note on the mat states this is the touched proof.}
[NOTE: The original plate size (states I, II, III) was 151 x 238 mm.]
