Continues the sequence of warriors begun in about 1582. According to an annotation on one of the impressions, the Captain is Jacob Ruyckhaver of Haarlem. (Bartsch, vol. 3, p. 114)
Inscribed in plate, in lower margin: Præuius infractos reddo Dux Martis alumnos,/Spernere dum doceo cuncta pericla, meo.
Signed and dated in plate, lower center, within engraved border: A°1587. HGoltzius fecit.
Watermark: eagle with a fleur-de-lys pending and the number "4" and the letters WB attached below; verso: MFA stamp with accession number in graphite
