Inscriptions「御町中様御機嫌能く御座遊ばされ、恐悦至極に存じ奉り候。随って去る頃大坂おもてより竹細工罷り下り、猶また御当地の名人様方々手を尽され候あと〳〵に候へども、計らず□き候事これ有り、細工人どもとくと相談仕り、則虎遊びと名付け、眼中の容躰、かり毛、尾づゝのかゝり迄心を用ひ、なるほどいきてゐる虎はこのやうでもあらうとおぼしめしにも叶ひ候様工夫致候。唐庭にぎやまんの瀧を仕掛け御覧に入れ候間、初日より賑々敷御入来のほど偏に希い奉り候、以上/月日 座元」

NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
