Undyed plain weave ground with inscription on a band of yellow almost entirely rotted away is placed a row of oval medallions, each containing a conventionalized white rabbit on a blue ground. Facing outward from each side of this border is a line of Kufic writing (.025 high) in blue, decorated with yellow (?), which has almost disappeared. Worn and in shreds. Inscription  A.L.M. (standing for “God, the gracious, the glorious”).

Provenance

Purchased in Cairo, Egypt by Joseph Lindon Smith (b. 1863 - d. 1950) for the MFA for $500 [see note 1]. (Accession Date: January 21, 1932)
