Once part of a larger composition in raised relief, this fragment illustrates the style of the early years of Akhenten’s reign, prior to his move to Akhetaten. The overlapping heads and torsos of five young women are preserved. Each wears a short, round wig with a sidelock and carries an ostrich plume fan.

Provenance

Probably Thebes, Karnak. By early 1970's: with Mrs. Paul Mallon, Paris (according to MFA file, had been offered for sale to the MFA several years prior to the purchase in 1976); purchased by the MFA from Mrs. Mallon February 11, 1976.
