The oblong octagonal two-handled tray has an applied border and handles of bamboo, prunus blossoms and leaves. It is engraved and chased with butterflies, peonies, and circular panels containing flowers on a diaper ground. The surface overall is etched and gilt, with areas of the bamboo and engraving left white.

On underside, stamped pattern number 14130 and registration mark for June 4, 1874, ELKINGTON &CO.
