The book by the author and naval officer Kimura Kokichi (1861-1940), with 18 illustrations by Kobayashi Teikô, was scheduled to be published in February 1896 but was suppressed because of the realism of the text and the illustrations–the cruel aspects of the war were not considered appropriate for public consumption.
The MFA has 4 of the unbound illustrations, 2000.330 to 2000.333.
