DescriptionOne of two folios from a dispersed copy of the Qur'an; 10 lines of Arabic calligraphy in black naskh script on the recto and verso; black and red diacritical and vocalization marks; illuminated rosette verse markers with blue and orange dots; blue text panels containing the chapter heading for Sura Ash-Shams (The Sun) [recto] and Sura Al-Layl (The Night) [verso] written with pale blue pigment and outlined in black, set in an illuminated cartouche decorated with delicate yellow, purple, and orange flowers; text set in gold, red and blue rulings; illuminated marginal medallions with floral designs.
