当山開基聖寳僧正は/中興諸山の路をひらき/川々に橋をわたし/又舟をうかべて往来の助けとすること数多し/むかし役小角/熊野より大峯に入り吉野に出る山伏の峯入りをはじめしが/ 其後大蛇出て人を悩すがゆゑ/峯入すること叶はざりしに/聖寳鉞を以てかの大蛇を退治して/大峯より熊野へ出ける/これを逆の峯入りといふ/然るに聖寳毒蛇に触て悪瘡を生じ/苦痛たへがたければ/準胝陀羅尼を信じければ/大悲の悪夢に/「宇治郡笠取山に霊水あり 是は三世の諸佛影向ありて醍醐経を加持すれば 急ぎゆきて浴せよ」と告げ玉へば/聖寳よろこびて教えのごとくゆあみせしに/立処に悪瘡愈たり/これによって此処に御寺を建立せり/醍醐といふはその霊水をかたどりたる号と知るべし
