DescriptionDomed Statehouse in distance. Tug, steamers and sailing boats in middle distance center. Corner of wharf in foreground left. Reflections in water.
InscriptionsOn back of original mount in graphite: A mere lazy trial sketch in partial imitation of the / style only of one whose great and renowned excellence / ought to have deterred me, together with my great admiration for him/ from it. It is lucky however that my mental and bodily / condition at this time rendered it impossible for to attain / enough truth of resemblance to subject a libel suit/ M. G. W. 1866 (The subject matter of the sketch is a mere recollection / of the splendid Harbor view from Chelsea- of which I / made another afterwards from an outline pencil sketch / that I happened to turn in looking over my things.)
